Our CAT and Genny Training Course is designed to teach delegates the essential knowledge required to safely and correctly operate a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and a Signal Generator (GENNY) when tracing underground services by HSG47’s guidance on Avoiding Danger from Underground Services.
The CAT & Genny Course is designed for people who operate, oversee, or manage the use of Cable Avoidance Tools and Signal Generators in the workplace to avoid the hazards of subterranean utilities. There are no prerequisites for this course, however, knowledge of subsurface services, utility planning, and cable avoidance techniques is beneficial.
Because the proper use of cable avoidance equipment necessitates delegates consult safety notifications and read and completely understand the manufacturer’s instruction booklet, English literacy and language comprehension are essential for each user.
We provide workers with the necessary skills to operate the Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator (Genny). This CAT training session covers the foundations of CAT and Genny and includes step-by-step instructions for using these instruments to find and avoid subterranean utilities. By attending this training, users get practical information on how to avoid hazards from subsurface utilities following HSG47.
Upon successful completion of this course, each delegate will get a Certificate of Training that is valid for three years.
CAT Training is appropriate for delegates who operate in any form of excavation on highways, building projects, parks, and industrial estates.

Students will receive classroom-based instruction with practical demonstrations. Candidates will also apply what they have learnt by surveying using the location equipment and creating a drawing.
There is no requirement for delegates to have a prior understanding of CAT or Genny, making it appropriate for novices. Delegates are urged to bring PPE and a jacket to the practical sessions.
Delegates will be made aware of the need to adopt and adhere to safe working procedures, including using the CAT and Genny. The training will look at the equipment’s benefits and limits, as well as possible risks, with a focus on accident prevention. Reach out to Sygma Solutions now.
